Sunday, August 2nd was a day of emotions at the BET headquarters as the final taping of Bobby Jones Gospel was underway. Many outside of the studio walls showed their support by showing up only to get turned away due to the program being full, but devoted fans stuck around to show their support to the Legend as well as the Gospel stars and business representatives inside of the BET studio that did not want to miss their chance to say goodbye to the future retiree.
Bobby Jones Gospel is BET’s longest-running program since the 80’s. It’s final season premiere in October with be the 35th & final year for the program. The history behind the Bobby Jones Gospel show is an inspiring story of how gospel music survived when the industry had no future beyond the black church, local church concerts, & radio programmed airplay.
