Kentucky Court Clerk, Kim Davis, refuses to give marriage licenses to gay couples due to her religious beliefs.
In parallel to the Supreme Court’s ruling allowing same-sex couples to file for marriage licenses, Davis filed an emergency motion to block an order from the Kentucky governor and requested the U.S. District Judge David Bunningto stop enforcement of Gov. Steve Beshear’s order, requiring county clerks to issue marriage licenses to gay & lesbian couples.
Does Kim Davis have the right to refuse marriage licenses as part of her constitutional rights?
We live in a country of religious freedom where everyone has a right to believe whatever they choose, which also leaves a loophole for people like Davis to either be punished for her beliefs or to be allowed to refuse gay marriage licence requests.
