A vehicle drove into the Comfort Suites hotel on 1310 West Fayette Avenue in Effingham, Illinois on Monday the 11th. The incident happened at 12:40pm.
Emergency crews arrived on the scene found that the car had driven through the front entrance doors, past the front lobby desk, through the center hallway, and after smashing in to the east wall (exterior wall) in the dining room, backed up and stop in the middle of the dining room.
The driver, identified as 32-year-old Rachel Jones of Farina, was taken in to custody by Effingham Police Officers, assisted by Illinois State Police Troopers. Jones was the lone occupant of the vehicle.
No one was injured in the incident. The hotel remained closed until 4:45pm to allow for the installation of temporary doors and to shore up the eastern wall.
