Planning and conversations are stirring towards the transformation of the Edgehill Homes off 12th Avenue South into a mixed-income community.
Metro Development and Housing Agency Executive Director, Jim Harbison, said that redevelopment plans for the Napier and Sudekum public housing started last Tuesday. Harbison gave a presentation to a joint meeting with the Metro Council’s Budget and Finance and Education committees that referenced his plans earlier this month to what is being called “Envision Edgehill.”
The apartments that are being called Edgehill Apartments are said to potentially accelerate growth in the Edgehill neighborhood
“Our hope is that Edgehill can remain a strong, middle and working-class community instead of just becoming another Gulch or 12th South,” said community organizer Austin Sauerbrei.
Mayor Megan Barry is on board, and his current capital improvement budget includes $25,000 to fund the makeover for the 380 unit public housing. The plans call for coordination with the neighborhood in and around Gernert Studio Apartments public housing in addition to Belmont and Vanderbilt universities.
